Meet Dr. Amir Aryaie

OWNER AND FOUNDER OF BMI SURGICAL INSTITUTE

Dr. Aryaie is a board certified surgeon and has completed a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric fellowship at one of the top fellowship programs in the United States at University Hospitals Case Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Aryaie received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, then attended Ross University School of Medicine, where he graduated in the top 5 percent of his class.

He completed his residency at The Jewish Hospital, an affiliate of University of Cincinnati. Once he finished his fellowship at one of the top prestigious MIS/Bariatric fellowships in the United States, he joined Texas Tech University Health Science Center as assistant professor of surgery where he served as Medical Director and Chief of Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.

With his effort he built a remarkable, successful, and comprehensive weight loss center with great results.
After his twin girls were born, he and his wife decided to move back to Atlanta to join his family and where he grew up to serve the amazing people of Georgia and south east United States.
Dr. Aryaie has done extensive research, published multiple publications and has been featured during national presentations regarding bariatrics and minimally invasive surgery. He was named as “Top Doctor” and “Doctor of Distinction” by Lubbock Magazine in 2019. He was again named as Top Bariatric Surgeon in Atlanta in 2020.
As an extremely experienced and knowledgeable surgeon, he has conducted thousands of high-quality weight loss surgeries including sleeve gastrectomy, endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), gastric bypass, duodenal switch, and laparoscopic and endoscopic revisional bariatric surgeries.
In addition, Dr. Aryaie specializes and has extensive experience in robotic, laparoscopic, and minimally invasive antireflux surgeries including hiatal hernia repair, TIF, LINX, and Nissen Fundoplication.
He offers the latest advanced endoscopic surgeries including Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) for Achalasia and Jack Hammer Esophagus (esophageal spasms) and Gastric Per Oral Endoscopic pyloromytomy (G-POEM) for gastroparesis which only a limited number of surgeons offer around the United States.
Dr. Aryaie has extensive experience with hernia surgeries, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and colorectal and gastrointestinal cancer surgeries through minimally invasive approach (Laparoscopic and Robotic) with minimal scar and great outcomes.
Dr. Aryaie serves on multiple national surgical committees and is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES); American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS); and American Hernia Society.
In addition, he has been featured on news channels and online for his area of expertise to educate the public.
One of his passions is educating the public and his patients to maintain a healthy lifestyle. He is very passionate about his job and his patients.
He treats his patients as if they are his own family members which has been his way of practice from the beginning.
He is a father of two beautiful twin girls. In his free time, he likes to read, travel, work out, and spend time with his family.

Meet Dr. Gonzalez-Jacobo

Dr. Gonzalez-Jacobo is a fellowship-trained Minimally Invasive and Bariatric surgeon. Originally from Miami, he attended University of South Florida Honors College where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in Biomedical Sciences. He then earned his medical degree at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Gonzalez-Jacobo completed his General Surgery residency at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Queens, NY. He continued his surgical training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY where he completed a Fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive surgery. During his fellowship he was able to refine his endoscopic, robotic and advanced laparoscopic surgical skills. Being Cuban-American he is fluent in Spanish.

He specializes and is experienced in Bariatric, anti-reflux , gastric, and esophageal surgeries as well as other areas of general surgery such as gallbladder and hernia surgery.

Outside of work, Dr. Gonzalez-Jacobo enjoys traveling, fishing and spending time with family. He is looking forward to providing the best care to the Atlanta community.

Meet Ms. Christine Paulin, FNP

Christine Paulin is a Nurse Practitioner at Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgical Institute under the guidance of Dr. Amir Aryaie. She originally attended Snead State Community College in Boaz, AL, where she received an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing. She had over 7 years of hospital nursing experience before continuing her education and earning a Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA.
Ms. Christine Paulin is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a dedicated healthcare professional with a passion for bariatric and gastrointestinal medicine. Christine is not only a committed healthcare professional, but she is also a loving wife and devoted mother to four children and a grandson. She is excited to assist in empowering patients to make positive lifestyle changes and healthy lifestyle choices, provide patient education, and enable patients to be in charge of their health to better their overall quality of life.
